YouTube, Gmail, and other Google services experience outage

In the early morning hours of December 14, 2020, Google suffered a major outage that affected the usability of Google services around the world.

Services such as Gmail, YouTube, Google Meet, and Google Maps were down for approximately 45 minutes while Google worked to correct things behind the scenes.

Google’s smart home products were also affected, with many users reporting that they were unable to control aspects of their homes, including their lighting.

There are reports that external companies that require users to have Gmail to log in, such as Pokemon Go, were not able to be accessed by users.

The issue was reported by Google to be an authentication system outage due to an internal storage quote issue.

The company has confirmed that the outage was not due to any outside threats or attacks.
