Microsoft has added non-removable ads to its calendar and mail apps
In November of 2018, Microsoft experimented with the idea of placing small banner ads in the Windows 10 Mail and Calendar UWP app for Windows 10.
They must have been pleased with the outcome of their experiment, because now those non-removable ads are back and here to stay.
During their experiment, the ads only showed up for users who were not Office 365 subscribers. That is no longer the case. Now, the advertisements will be displayed to all users.
If using the Outlook app on mobile, the ads take up considerable vertical space and can considerable affect the ease of use the app typically presents.
Interestingly, if you are in Gmail and click on the common advertisement that offers you to read your mail on mobile, it will take you to a page for the Outlook app.
In response to being asked about the non-removable ads now showing up in the mail and calendar apps, Microsoft stated, “The ads within the app itself will be displayed regardless of which email address you use with it. It is not removable, but you can submit it as a suggestion within the Feedback Hub on Windows 10 here: https://msft.it/6012TVPXG
