Android’s Trusted Face unlocking method has disappeared from devices running Android 10 or below

Trusted Face, Android’s unlocking safety feature, has been around since 2014, but recently was quietly removed from Android devices altogether. Both stock and OEM devices running Android 10 or below are affected.

The feature had been accessible under Settings – Security – Smart Lock – Trusted Face. While not relying on biometric data for security, it would use the parameters of a user’s facial measurement in order to unlock the device. Unfortunately, this meant that even a photograph could easily trick the feature into unlocking the device.

As of the Android 10 update, Trusted Face is no longer an option.

With no official statement, it’s unknown if the removal of Trusted Face is temporary or permanent.
