Apple will be forcing iPhone apps to ask before tracking users

Apple will soon be forcing iPhone apps to get permission from the users of their app prior to tracking them.

This change was recently announced at Apple’s virtual developer conference.

App developers currently wanting to track users are provided with unique numbers for each user by Apple.

While this update to the iPhone OS doesn’t remove the ability for apps to track users, users must now choose to approve of tracking requests by apps, or not. Users can also turn tracking off in the settings menu.

This is good news for user privacy.

It’s too soon to tell how many apps will be negatively affected and need to change their way of doing business in order to stay afloat.
