Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Microsoft pauses Edge release

Microsoft announced that they are pausing the rollout of Edge v81. They cited the ongoing “global circumstances” surrounding the coronavirus outbreak as to why they’ve decided to pause the rollout.

Software updates, including the new Edge release, usually require security reviews and compatibility testing to ensure operating systems and internal web applications continue to function properly post installation.

Microsoft stated that it does not want to put an extra strain on system administrators and other IT staff personal, who are most likely busy handling the security of employees working from home, by releasing Edge’s new version at this time.

A new release date has not yet been released and will likely be coming after the global pandemic has subsided.
