Cloudflare just made a DNS resolver available that’s faster than Google’s and more private.

If there’s one thing I like in my internet, it’s speed. With busy schedules, no one wants to sit around waiting for a webpage to load.

While slow internet browsing is usually blamed on the age of a computer or a virus, it could be the result of using a slow DNS resolver service as well. Unfortunately, DNS is usually slow and it’s insecure.

Your internet service provider, and pretty much anyone else interested, can see which sites you visit and which apps you use. Some DNS providers even sell data about your internet activity to advertisers.

So, what can you do?

Cloudflare’s service has three huge selling points that can’t be overlooked. One, it’s faster. Their DNS directory clocks in at 14.8ms, while Google’s Public DNS comes in at 34.7ms. It doesn’t sound like a huge difference with those small numbers, but when they’re added up over time, using a different service other than Cloudflare adds up to a lot of wasted time. Two, they don’t log the IP addresses of their users. They don’t want to know what you’re doing on the internet and they’re not interested in selling your data to others. Three, it’s free. Seriously.
